What We Do - 1st Visit

At the first visit a thorough examination by the Doctor will be done. He will check for dental decay, infections, check that the proper number of teeth have erupted, see that your child is receiving the proper amount of fluoride (because too much or too little can lead to problems), will clean your child’s teeth, suggest proper oral hygiene techniques, diet and eating habits, take radiographs (x-rays) as necessary, evaluate their occlusion (bite) and review with you, your child’s diagnosis or specific problems.

Please feel free at this time to discuss any concerns you may have and ask questions.

We can provide you with the latest facts about finger, thumb and pacifier habits. We can give you information on growth and development. We can provide you with what you need to know about preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth. For your adolescent, we will cover topics that self-conscious teens need to know.

We do not use the words “hurt”, “pull”, or “needle”, instead we make it a practice of using words that convey calmness and ease apprehensions. When we talk to kids, we do it on their level, providing them with more comfort and putting them at ease. For young patients, we don’t examine their teeth, we count them. We don’t take x-rays, we take pictures. We don’t polish their teeth, we tickle them. We use sleepy water to make their tooth sleepy. Pediatric dental offices make a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.

With your cooperation, we will have your child’s teeth sparkle and help them have a beautiful smile.
